Elswood Bowmen is an archery club based in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
Our members shoot most types of bow, Recurve, Compound, Barebow, Longbow and other traditional styles.

Already a member of Archery GB? Join Elswood for 2024/25 and we’ll give you club membership for the remainder of this season for free!
Guests are welcome to any of our sessions except league matches and championships. You must remember to bring your Archery GB card and there is a £5 fee.

Active junior club

Elswood has a vibrant junior section who shoot alongside seniors at all meetings.

Long history

Elswood Bowmen is one of the oldest clubs in Hertfordshire being founded in 1958 by Guy and Marjorie Ely. It originally covered ELStree & BorehamWOOD where the name was taken from, but is now based in
St. Albans with members from a wide area.

What’s your bow style?

Recurve, as used in the Olympics and the most used
Compound, very accurate and used in the para Olympics
Barebow, like recurve but without sights
Longbow, for those budding Robin Hoods
Asiatic horse bows, becoming more popular

There’s always room for cake at Elswood

Archery is a social sport. We have regular matches with other clubs and many of our archers represent Hertfordshire at inter county matches.

A good tea is essential after a match!
