4 week archery course
This 4 week archery course is perfect for complete beginners and those wanting a refresh of their archery skills.
On the course you will learn:
- How to shoot safely
- Warm up and cool down exercises
- How to assemble the bow
- How to take the bow down
- Different Rounds
The teaching part of the course takes place over the first 3 weeks and the sessions are two hours long. During the final session you have the opportunity to shoot with the rest of the club after which you can decide whether you would like to join us as a member at Elswood Bowmen.
The course fee is £75 and includes all equipment hire. We typically run outdoor courses from May to August an indoors October to February.

How long is the course?
Four consecutive sessions, including one club session.

What if I can’t make all the sessions?
Please email to agree alternative sessions. If a session is cancelled due to rain we will add one at the end. Week one is mandatory.
Do I need to book?
Yes, booking is essential.

Where and when are the course run?
At outdoor at our venue, Highfield St Albans or our indoor venue in Shenley There are directions and course dates on our web site.
How much does it cost?
£75 for all attendees

Booking is via Eventbrite who take all major credit and debit cards or PayPal
What type of bows will we use?
Recurve. These are the type used in the Olympics. There are photos on our web site.
Can I use another type of bow?
The course is run using club recurve bows, but we have members using compound and longbows.
Do you provide all the equipment?
We provide all archery equipment.
Do I need to bring anything?
You need a wear a close fitting top with sleeves. If it’s sunny remember to bring water and sun cream. You could bring a camp chair for outdoors, but you won’t be sitting much. You need a tight fitting waistband or belt to hang your quiver from. Leggings and tracksuits are NOT suitable.
Please bring layers when shooting at the field, the temperature can cool during the evening.
How old do juniors need to be?
We take juniors from about 12, but they could be a bit younger if they are strong enough. Juniors must be accompanied by an Adult.
What is the maximum age for the course?
There is no maximum, as long as you can use the kit.
Can we join an archery club after completing the course?
You are welcome to join us, but your completion certificate will be accepted at any Archery GB club.
What facilities are at each venue?
There are toilets at both venues. Tea & coffee is available indoors.
